Volunteer agreement
The RSPB has produced a summary statement of the rights and
responsibilities of its volunteers, as follows:
A volunteer has the right to:
- A good understanding of what the RSPB is and does.
- Know what they are expected to do.
- Know who they are answerable to.
- Be part of a team and included in appropriate meetings
and social events.
- Appropriate training.
- Know who they can talk to (other than their manager)
if there are problems or difficulties.
- Be properly valued - and thanked.
- Receive regular and constructive feedback.
- Be trusted (with confidential information if necessary).
- Have safe working conditions.
- Have adequate insurance cover.
- Be taken seriously by paid colleagues.
- Not to be out of pocket.
- Be consulted.
- Say no.
Volunteers have the responsibility to:
- Be reliable.
- Tell their manager if they are not available or running
late.
- Respect confidentiality.
- Carry out the agreed project.
- Give constructive feedback if appropriate.
- Be accountable and accept constructive comment.
- Take part in relevant training.
- Ask for support if it is needed.
