Redundancy
If funding dries up, for whatever reason, or the staff just
don't have the skills to respond to new requirements, redundancies
may have to happen. It's not always anyone's fault, but it's
still painful for everyone concerned.
- Consult early - staff may have good ideas on how to avoid
the worst outcomes.
- Try to retrain and redeploy wherever possible.
- Consider whether you can afford redundancy payments above
the statutory obligations - but if there is no contractual
right to enhanced payments, be careful how you use charitable
funds.
- Help staff to come to terms with their new situation,
including perhaps offering outplacement counselling and
career management support.
