Gaining recognition as a charity in Northern Ireland
In Northern Ireland, charitable recognition is dealt with
by the Inland Revenue office in Bootle, Merseyside.
To be recognised, follow these two steps:
- You need to supply the Inland Revenue with a copy of
your governing document to satisfy them that your purposes
are exclusively charitable. You can phone the Inland Revenue
for an information pack.
- If your organisation is accepted, you will be given a
reference number and a letter granting charitable status.
In Northern Ireland, most charities don't have to supply
copies of their constitutions or accounts to the public, although
they must supply copies to the Department of Health and Social
Services.
